AGTR1 and COVID-19: Since older patients with cardiovascular pathologies, frequently treated with ACE inhibitors (ACEI) or AT1R blockers (ARB), suffer from a serious course of COVID-19 and high mortality, and RAS inhibitors seem to increase membrane-bound ACE2 (mACE2) expression, presumably thus facilitating the entry of SARS-CoV-2 into cells, it has been suggested that treatment with ACEI/ARB could increase the potential danger during the COVID-19 pandemic (Fang et al., 2020).
