Reversing miR-130b promoter hypermethylation decreased EC cell malignancy, suggesting that CpG island hypermethylation-mediated miRNA silencing contributes to carcinogenesis and is related to aggressive tumor behavior via increased MMP-2/9 expression, however, the mechanism behind the regulation of MMP expression by this miRNA is still unknown (77). The gene discussed is MMP2; the disease is neoplasm.
