The cytokine profile in these studies is comparable to that reported in cytokine release syndromes, such as macrophage activation syndrome, which is characterized by increased expression of cytokines (IL6, IL7, and TNF) and inflammatory chemokines (CCL2, CCL7, CXC-10, and CXCL-11) (35). Here, CXCL11 is linked to macrophage activation syndrome.
