Thus, the fact that both the COVID-19 ARDS and non-COVID-19 ARDS lung autopsies in this study showed high NLRP3 and caspase 1 expression (as compared to non-COVID-19 non-ARDS lungs) seems to suggest that the activation of NLRP3 inflammasome pathway is more related to ARDS (and associated MV) and may not be a COVID-19 related phenomenon alone. This evidence concerns the gene CASP1 and COVID-19.
