Our initial report of the 3xTg-AD model described development of age-related and progressive amyloid and tau pathologies, with extracellular plaques first appearing at 6-months of age, although replicating the appearance of plaques in 3xTg-AD mice before 12-months of age has been challenging in recent years, followed by NFTs becoming apparent at 12-months of age (Oddo et al., 2003). The gene discussed is MAPT; the disease is Alzheimer disease.
