Rapamycin therapy decreased mTOR signaling in SMCs and other vascular wall cells (Figure 5C and Supplemental Figure 3) and markedly diminished the incidence of aortic hematoma (a descriptive term that includes free ruptures) from 40% to 15% at day 7; the few remaining lesions appeared minimally enlarged and without darkly discolored mural thrombus (Figure 5, D and E). This evidence concerns the gene MTOR and hematoma.
