Notably, the CRC-derived F. nucleatum isolates that most potently induced secretion of CXCL1 and IL-8 from HCT116 cells were those which were least adept at colonizing our GF ApcMin/+ murine model (Fig. 3), highlighting the potential importance of specific host (human versus murine)-microbe interactions.
