We found that COVID-19 patients upon hospital admission had significantly elevated circulating levels of galectin-3 when compared to age-matched pre-pandemic healthy subjects (28.77 ng/mL [17.52–42.04] vs. 9.65 ng/mL [8.27–14.71], p < 0.0001) (Fig. 1a). This evidence concerns the gene LGALS3 and COVID-19.
