NR1H4 and steatosis: Moreover, the pigments (yellow, orange, and red) in RYR act on primary receptors involved in metabolism of cholesterol and homeostasis of bile acid (farnesoid-X receptor and peroxisome-proliferator-activated receptor-γ), upregulating their mRNA levels, in turn suppressing hepatic lipid accumulation and steatosis, promoting fecal cholesterol, triacylglycerol, and bile acid excretion.
