Although ovarian cancer occurs often later in life, these results could be useful for counselling patients about possible treatment adverse effects, especially when associated with Brip1 gene mutation which is considered as a low-to-moderate penetrance risk for this cancer for which a risk-reducing salpingo-oophorectomy was recommended in carriers aged between 45 and 50 years47. The gene discussed is BRIP1; the disease is ovarian carcinoma.
