In order to assess whether the WID-OC-index is also informative in healthy women who are known to have an extremely high probability of developing ovarian cancer in the future, we analysed a separate dataset consisting of cervical smear samples from 57 healthy BRCA1 mutation carriers (who have an up to 40 fold increased cancer risk24) and 114 BRCA1/2 wild-type controls (Fig. 2g). The gene discussed is BRCA1; the disease is ovarian cancer.
