Brain-derived neurotrophic factor, which is found at lower levels in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) than in those without CAD, inhibited ox-LDL-induced NLRP3 inflammasome formation and pyroptosis of ECs through KLF2/HK1-mediated regulation of glucose metabolism and mitochondrial homeostasis (Jin et al., 2021).
