Model 2- Epilepsy patient’s purified total IgG, rich in GluR3B peptide antibodies, which was released continuously in normal mouse brain for 1 week, and followed continuously by video EEG for 2 weeks, induced all the following effects: 1. Strong Seizures, 2. Cerebellar Purkinje cell loss, 3. Degeneration in the hippocampus and cerebral cortex, and 4. Elevation of CD3+ T cells, and of activated Mac-2+ microglia and GFAP+ astrocytes in both the gray and white matter of the cerebral cortex, hippocampus, corpus calossum and cerebellum of mice (10). The gene discussed is GFAP; the disease is epilepsy.
