An experiment assessing the protective effect of crocetin on norepinephrine (NE)-induced myocardial hypertrophy in rats revealed that crocetin significantly decreased the lipid peroxidation (LPO) content and increased the activities of glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and superoxide peroxidase (SOD) in myocardial hypertrophy tissue. The gene discussed is SOD1; the disease is cardiac hypertrophy.
