PPARG, which was found significantly upregulated in our study consistent with previous RNA-seq studies comparing low- and high-osteoarthritis grade cartilage (4–6,8), encodes for a ligand-activated transcription factor with a chondroprotective role and has been proposed as a therapeutic target for osteoarthritis through activation of mTOR/autophagy pathway (37). The gene discussed is PPARG; the disease is osteoarthritis.
