Table 4 summarizes the baseline levels of clinical and standard hepatic biomarkers in both groups (disease-free and ultrasound-confirmed steatosis after 10 years). Both groups were age and sex balanced. The mean age of the study subjects was 63 (53-69) years, and 61.2% were women. As shown in Table 4, baseline plasma TG, AST, ALT, GGT and FLI were significantly higher in the group that developed ultrasound-confirmed steatosis (p<0.05). Here, TG is linked to steatosis.
