Together with our observation that, unlike FGF21, FGF19 levels in plasma were not different in IUGR and normal fetal littermates and, moreover, were extremely low compared to levels in new‐born pigs, this strongly suggests that the observed effects of KLB on IUGR fetal muscle in the present study were mediated by FGF21 rather than FGF19. This evidence concerns the gene KLB and fetal growth restriction.
