The host response to SBI as a biomaterial differs from the general FRB by the production of the cytokine IL-17 following exposure to silicon-containing particles after apoptosis by macrophages as well as the inflammatory Th1/Th17 cells predominantly found in the SBI capsule, which may result in the development of inflammatory/autoimmune diseases [38, 54]. The gene discussed is IL17A; the disease is autoimmune disease.
