As it was shown that type 2 cytokines such as IL-4 and IL-13 can increase TGF-β production in bronchial epithelial cells in diseases such as asthma (61), one could hypothesize that ILC2, which secrete such cytokines, could thus induce TGF-β secretion from fibroblasts or other epithelial cells such as keratinocytes, and therefore, increase fibrosis (62). The gene discussed is TGFB1; the disease is asthma.
