ACE2 and COVID-19: ACE2 polymorphisms have been associated with susceptibility to SARS-CoV-2 infection due to its close interaction with its glycoprotein S. Furthermore, ACE2 is overexpressed under inflammatory conditions, such as those produced during SARS-CoV-2 infection [11,12], and is expressed differently among populations, and this could also explain, in part, differences in the severity of COVID-19 [13].
