The inflammation lowering effect of a Med Diet may positively influence mood by reducing oxidative damage products [49], increasing total antioxidant capacity and antioxidant levels [49], normalizing neurotransmitter production, HPA axis function and glucocorticoid receptor signaling [14,50,51,52,53,54] all of which are altered with depression [55,56,57]. This evidence concerns the gene NR3C1 and depressive symptom measurement.
