Polyphenols have antioxidant properties, which can prevent osteoporosis by scavenging reactive oxygen species (ROS), down-regulating inflammatory mediators, and help in bone formation by up-regulating bone formation markers, such as runt-related transcription factor-2 (Runx2), osteocalcin, Wnt signaling pathway, β-catenin, and insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-1 [13,14]. Here, RUNX2 is linked to osteoporosis.
