The latest heart failure treatment regimen, published by the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) in August 2021, includes dapagliflozin and empagliflozin, drugs representing sodium glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors which until now have been used as diabetes medication, yet have also been proven to have a positive impact on patients with cardiovascular diseases [8,9]. This evidence concerns the gene SLC5A2 and heart failure.
