Genetic studies have shown that the presence of several single nucleotide polymorphisms in the IL-10 promoter region is associated not only with the faster deterioration of kidney function but also with the development of glomerulonephritis (IgA nephropathy (IgAN) and focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS)) [203]. This evidence concerns the gene IL10 and focal segmental glomerulosclerosis.
