Attenuating CIN by directly inhibiting NLRP3 was demonstrated in in vivo (nlrp3 or casp1 knockout mice) and in vitro (treatment with MCC950, a selective NLRP3 inflammasome inhibitor) experiments that also resulted in the upregulation of HIF-1α and BNIP3-mediated mitophagy [82].
