Severe course of the disease if often associated with an increase of inflammatory cytokines, especially interleukin 6 (IL-6), which can eventually result in cytokine storm, a life-threatening inflammatory syndrome [23,24] contributing to hypercoagulable state and endothelial dysfunction thus increasing the risk of disseminated intravascular coagulation [25,26,27,28,29]. This evidence concerns the gene IL6 and thrombophilia.
