Critical compounds of Ephedra, including quercetin, luteolin, kempferol, naringenin, and beta-sitosterol, were identified in treating asthma by inhibiting the expression of many anti-inflammatory targets, SELE, IL-2, and CXCL10, at mRNA and protein levels; these substances are involved in the biological processes of immune response, inflammatory response, cell-cell signaling, and response to lipopolysaccharide [87].
