AKT3 and neoplasm: Cristiano and co-workers also reported a specific role for AKT3 in the genesis of a subset of ovarian cancer by promoting the G2-M phase transition [31], but, contrary to their results, we found AKT3 expression inversely related with the mitotic rate (Spearman’s rho = −0.27; p = 0.006), suggesting its potential role in determining a tumor phenotype with “stemness-like” features, resistant to chemotherapy.
