Similarly, inactivated p53 mutations [11,12,13,14,15,17,88,89,90,91] and MDM2 amplifications [13,14,15,16] have been observed in human mucosal and acral melanoma, suggesting that p53 pathway dysregulation may be crucial in non-UV-induced melanoma development [29]. The gene discussed is TP53; the disease is acral lentiginous melanoma.
