Remarkably, bortezomib (a proteasome inhibitor) and romidepsin (an HDAC inhibitor) demonstrated lower IC50 values than doxorubicin (a standard therapeutic drug for soft tissue sarcomas) in all five MFS cell lines; thus, bortezomib and romidepsin were considered to be promising candidate drugs. The gene discussed is HDAC9; the disease is soft tissue sarcoma.
