ALB and acute kidney injury: In cirrhotics with SBP, the administration of human albumin drastically reduces the incidence of AKI and improves overall survival [138,139]: in particular, albumin (1.5 g/kg within six hours of SBP diagnosis, followed by 1 g/kg on day 3) plus intravenous antibiotics reduced incidence of renal impairment from 33% to 10% and mortality from 29% to 10% [138].
