In a pioneering study, Khera et al. showed that decreased total CEC in apoB-depleted serum is associated with prevalent CHD, and in a healthy subject cohort decreased total CEC was correlated with carotid artery intima-media thickness, with these findings remaining significant after adjustment for CHD risk factors and either HDL-C or apoA1 levels [52]. The gene discussed is APOB; the disease is coronary artery disorder.
