As we show in Table 2, we have selected COVID-19 clinical trials with drugs that: (1) inhibit neutrophil recruitment or activation (colchicine), (2) prevent NETs release (fostamatinib), (3) specifically block NETs compounds (NE by alvelestat, gasdermin D by disulfiram, and HMGB1 by metformin), (4) degrade NETs (dornase alfa, also known as pulmozyme), and (5) reduce ROS or act as an antioxidant (vitamin D, cholecalciferol, and N-acetylcysteine) (Figure 2). The gene discussed is HMGB1; the disease is COVID-19.
