Interestingly, according to the research conducted by Lewandowski et al., the genotype C/T of a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs4880 of the SOD2 gene, encoding MnSOD, was present in 90% of obese individuals in the population studied by this group, what may indicate that this is a hereditary factor, playing a role in the development of obesity [36]. Here, SOD2 is linked to obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
