On the basis of these reports implicating the NLRP3 inflammasome in DKD, it is of particular interest to explore the efficacy of NLRP3 inhibition using a highly specific compound, MCC950, that specifically targets the ATP hydrolysis motif of the NLRP3 protein thereby inhibiting assembly of the inflammasome complex [8,9,25]. Here, NLRP3 is linked to diabetic kidney disease.
