Noteworthy, observed cytotoxicity of plumbagin toward PTEN-P2 prostate cancer cells, both as a free drug and in the form of drug-loaded nanoemulsion, was slightly higher compared to standard of care for prostate cancer—docetaxel or other anticancer drugs in development, rapamycin and 17-AAG encapsulated in the poly(ethylene glycol)-block-poly(D,L-lactic acid) (PEG-b-PLA) micelles [34].
