Interestingly, PSCK5, predicted to be at increased activity in CKD based on our data and also supported by the mRNA Nephroseq expression pattern, has been reported as one of the enzymes involved in posttranslational processing and stability of fibroblast growth factor 23 (Fgf23), a protein which plays an important role in CKD development as it regulates phosphorus and vitamin D metabolism [57]. Here, FGF23 is linked to chronic kidney disease.
