A variety of factors are associated with severity of disease and mortality in COVID-19 patients, including demographics (e.g. age, sex), comorbidities (e.g. diabetes mellitus, hypertension, obesity), ethnicity (e.g. Black and minority ethnicity) and clinical values (e.g. body mass index (BMI) and levels of C-reactive protein (CRP) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH)) [4–14].
