After adjusting for multiple clinical factors, non-paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (hazard ratio 3.37; 95% confidence interval 1.29–8.83; p value 0.013) and serum galectin-3 level (hazard ratio 1.39; 95% confidence interval 1.14–1.70; p value 0.001) were found to be associated with an increased risk of recurrence (Table 2).
