With respect to its anti-inflammatory properties, EGCG can downregulate the expression of various inflammatory mediators in P. gingivalis LPS-stimulated human periodontal ligament stem cells [32] and significantly reduce the secretion of various inflammatory mediators, such as IL-8, in a three-dimensional coculture model of gingival epithelial cells and fibroblasts stimulated with LPS from Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans, which is strongly associated with aggressive periodontitis [33].
