It appears that people with schizophrenia are primed for exaggerated and prolonged immune responses via higher transcription of NF-κB-activating receptors at the level of the cell membrane, and that some patients are potentially are less able to attenuate NF-κB signaling due to lowered synthesis of key intracellular regulators, IKKβ and NIK.
