CRP and schizophrenia: Stratification using plasma CRP or levels of pro-inflammatory cytokine transcripts in isolation have identified patient subgroups with more severe symptoms, poorer cognition and worse neuropathology [18, 22–25], but it is not known whether patients with elevated plasma CRP levels overlap with patients who have increased levels of cytokine transcripts or which specific cytokine upregulations may be most associated with plasma CRP in schizophrenia.
