There is therefore interest in the role of the VAPB‐PTPIP51 tethers not just in normal cellular function, but in neuronal dysfunction, in ALS/FTD and other neurodegenerative diseases (De Vos et al., 2012; Lau et al., 2020; Paillusson et al., 2017; Stoica et al., 2014, 2016). The gene discussed is VAPB; the disease is amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
