CD4 and AIDS: This occurred at a time when the national HIV treatment program in Lesotho had begun universal initiation of antiretroviral therapy for all HIV-positive persons regardless of CD4 count, and the country had demonstrated good progress toward the United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS (UNAIDS) 90–90–90 goals (90% of persons living with HIV know their status, 90% of those with HIV who know their status are receiving treatment, and 90% of those receiving treatment are virally suppressed) (6).
