ACTA1 and acute kidney injury: Markers of fibrosis were higher in the AKI cohort compared to both the sham and control cohorts assessed by quantification of Collagen 3 immunohistochemistry (Fig. 3B), hydroxyproline content (Fig. 3C) and Picrosirius Red staining, (Fig. 3D), with representative light and polarized images in Fig. 3E. Overall, these data mirror the 1 year α-SMA and fibrosis marker findings in the male cohorts21, however, the female AKI cohorts demonstrated a higher absolute quantification of Collagen 3, and Picrosirius Red staining, but not hydroxyproline content, compared to males (Supplementary Table 1).
