ADIPOQ and fatty liver disease: Accordingly, adiponectin has been shown to be protective against fatty liver disease increasing hepatic insulin sensitivity and attenuating liver inflammation and fibrosis [133], therefore exerting antisteatotic, anti-inflammatory and antifibrogenic effects [134], as well as it was reported to be anti-apoptotic on pancreatic β-cells [135]. In the kidney adiponectin via AMPK pathway activation inhibits NADPH oxidase which results in preventing of podocytes injury, improving their dysfunction, inhibiting inflammation, fibrosis and oxidative stress [136][137].
