IFNG and infection: Our data demonstrated an increased mRNA expression of signature cytokines of Th1 (IFNγ, tumor necrosis factor [TNF)-α], Th2(interleukin [IL]-13), Th9 (IL-9), and Th17 (IL-17A) cells and IL-6 cytokine at the peak of infection (i.e., 2 dpi) along with their respective transcription factors, T-bet, GATA3, and RAR-related orphan receptor (ROR)-c (de Candia et al., 2021; Grifoni et al., 2020; Mathew et al., 2020).
