Several cytokines were found to be involved in the pathogenesis of MM, and some were useful in predicting treatment response in bortezomib-treated patients; in particular, higher levels of MIP-1α and lower levels of MIP-1β and IL-9 were associated with better response to treatment, while higher IL-1Ra and IL-8 levels were associated with osteolytic bone symptoms. The gene discussed is CCL3; the disease is Miyoshi myopathy.
