GFAP and stroke disorder: In a model of photothrombotic stroke lesion in the adult mouse cortex, enhancement of HA levels six weeks following the ischemic insult was associated with increased microglial, glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP)-positive cells in the peri-infarct area expressing RHAMM, suggesting that HA-mediated signaling may regulate these key cellular modulators of neuroinflammatory processes [133].
