CXCL8 and melanoma: There is significant evidence for IL-8/IL-8Rs in multiple processes defining melanoma progression, established from the following: (a) in vitro studies on melanoma cell lines, endogenously expressing IL-8/IL8Rs and representative for different melanoma stages, manipulated for the gene expression of IL-8 [128,129] and CXCR1/2 [130,131,132] or with neutralizing specific anti-IL-8 antibodies [133], and (b) in vivo tumor models constructed with cells expressing high-/low-IL-8 or- IL-8Rs [134,135].
