Another phase III trial, the PAOLA-1 trial, showed that when maintenance olaparib was added to the first-line treatment with bevacizumab (a vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) monoclonal antibody), patients with advanced ovarian cancer presented significantly favorable outcomes as compared to bevacizumab plus placebo in the progression-free survival of patients with HRD-positive tumors, including those without a BRCA variant (HRD-positive and BRCA wild-type) [97]. This evidence concerns the gene VEGFA and ovarian cancer.
